About Free Dentistry Day
While many dentists volunteer on dental missions to provide free dental services for needy people internationally, there is also a need in Canada to provide such services. It is not just in some small towns in the far corners of a province or territory, but also in many big Canadian cities. To that end, two Ottawa dentists have launched an initiative to implore dental clinics nationwide to extend an Free Dentistry Day to serve their local communities.
In the Annual Free Dentistry Day, a dental office designates one day a year to provide free dental care for those who cannot access dental care. The dentist and his/her team will pick a day, typically a Saturday, when the whole team will volunteer their time to provide those in need with basic dental care: an extraction, a filling or a cleaning. The patient chooses only one free service.
Drs. Yamen Ghamian and Habib Khoury started a free dentistry day in their office in Kanata, Ottawa in 2014. They look forward to seeing the Annual Free Dentistry Day become a yearly tradition among many dental clinics from coast to coast to coast.
